Growing Concepts of Multi Unit Operators
Concepts that have grown by at least 5% (if less than 50 units).
Lakewood, OH-based ALADDIN’S EATERY (founded 1994) has increased by 1 unit, from 29 to 30 (3% growth). This family/casual Mediterranean concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $6-$15+ per person check average. Beer and wine are served and seating is for about 50. Catering is available. Locations are franchised and trade in IN, NC, OH, PA and VA.

RIVERSIDE PIZZA of Lawrenceville, GA (founded 1999) has increased by 1 unit, from 8 to 9 (13% growth). These are quick serve restaurants with limited seating. Meal periods are lunch and dinner. Per person check average is around $4-$12+. Catering, delivery and franchising are offered. All locations are in GA.
WIMPY’S DINER based in Scarborough, ON (founded 1961) has increased by 3 units, from 44 to 47 (7% growth). These are family/casual restaurants with full bar and seating for around 70. Meal periods are breakfast, lunch and dinner. Per person check average is around $6-$15+. Locations are more than 90% franchised and are in ON.
Atlanta, GA-based POPEYE’S CHICKEN & BISCUITS (NASDAQ AFCE; founded 1972) has increased by 154 units, from 2225 to 2379 (7% growth). This quick serve chicken concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range. Units have seating for about 80 and offer catering , online ordering and drive-thru services. The restaurants are franchised and trade in AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI and WV.
McDonough, GA-based SHANE’S RIB SHACK (founded 2002) has increased by 2 units, from 69 to 71 (3% growth). These bbq restaurants are fast casual, open for lunch and dinner. Per person price range is $4-$12, serving beer. Average seating is for about 70. Catering is available. Trading areas are AL, AZ, FL, GA, KY, LA, MD, NC, NY, SC, TN and VA.
Emerging and Re-emerging Concepts

Utah-based BOUT TIME! PUB & GRUB (founded 2009) has increased by 2 units, from 8 to 10 (25% growth) and entered into CO. This is a family/casual bar and grill concept, open for lunch and dinner, with an $8-$20+ per person check average. Locations have seating for about 200, offering catering service. The restaurants are in CO and UT.
SAKURA JAPANESE STEAKHOUSE based in Ellicott City, MD (founded 1988) has increased by 2 units, from 20 to 22 (10% growth). These are upscale Japanese restaurants with full bar and seating for around 150. Meal periods are lunch and dinner. Per person check average is around $15-$50+. Catering and banquet services are offered. Locations are in CA, MD, NJ and VA.

Alpharetta, GA-based MCALISTER’S DELI (founded 1989) has increased by 13 units, from 327 to 340 (4% growth) and entered into PA. This fast casual concept is open for lunch and dinner, with a $4-$12+ per person price range. Units seat about 150 and offer catering and online ordering services. Locations are franchised and trade in AL, AR, AZ, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MI, MO, MS, NC, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA and WY. We featured this concept on 10/1/13 (4% growth) and on 8/5/14 (3% growth). McAlister’s is a subsidiary of Atlanta, GA-based Focus Brands.
Chicago, IL-based NATIVE FOODS CAFE (founded 1994) has increased by 2 units, from 24 to 26 (8% growth) and entered into VA. The restaurants are fast casual, serving American cuisine. Per person check average is $6-$15+, serving beer and wine. Average seating is for about 40. Catering, online ordering and private party services are available. Locations are in CA, CO, DC, IL and OR. We wrote about this concept on 2/4/14 (21% growth) and on 8/19/14 (41% growth).
THE ORIGINAL BUSCEMIS based in Fraser, MI (founded 1976) has increased by 2 units, from 43 to 45 (5% growth). These are quick serve pizza restaurants with seating for around 50. Beer and wine are offered. Meal periods are lunch and dinner. Per person check average is around $4-$12+. Catering and delivery are offered. Locations are more than 90% franchised and are in FL and MI. We last reported on this concept on 10/8/13 (13% growth).
