Vote for your favourite takeaway in the delivery service's awards
Liverpool-based takeaway Wok and Go in the running for the UK’s first ever multi-cuisine British Takeaway Awards.
The event is sponsored by online takeaway ordering service Just Eat and takes place on November 9 at London’s Savoy Hotel.
Wok and Go was set up by managing director Desmond Pheby, previously a financial analyst for a logistics firm, who travelled the world, exploring different cuisines and flavours, and saw that people were getting more health-conscious and savvy about what they were eating.
He saw an opportunity to provide quick, fresh and authentic Asian food, prepared from scratch with no buffets, microwaves or pre-prepared ingredients, and served in the American-style noodle boxes often favoured by characters of US sitcoms.
The idea came to reality in 2008 with two Wok and Go branches in Chester shortly followed by two in Liverpool.
The idea then spread across the North West into the Midlands, North East and South of England.
The concept has now gone into Wales and Kuwait, with further plans to expand nationally and internationally in the near future.
Desmond is calling for local support in the competition.
He said: “Having been in the industry for many years, we are delighted that the British Takeaway Awards has been created to help support all local restaurant businesses.
“Please help put us on the map and vote for your favourite takeaway in the British Takeaway Awards.”
The awards ceremony has been established as a showcase of culinary excellence and a source inspiration to chefs nationwide.
The North West Takeaway industry is worth £950m and provides 24,100 jobs.
