The company is also the first blue chip tenant at the Dubai Trade Centre District, a mixed-use development within the Dubai World Trade Centre Freezone.
Oil services firm Schlumberger opened offices in new Dubai Trade Centre District, becoming one of the first companies to be established under the newly created Dubai World Trade Centre Freezone. The company is also the first blue chip tenant at the DTCD, a mixed-used real estate development spread across 535,000 square metres of gross floor area. The development is located between the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre and Jumeirah Emirates Towers. It will be developed in phases, with the first phase to be completed by Q1 2016, while the second phased will be fully operational by Q3 2017.
Schlumberger, which signed a long-term lease, will occupy three floors spread across 5,762 square metres in the newly completed office property in DTCD. The company, a supplier of specialised solutions to the international oil and gas exploration and production industry, is expected to begin operations by April 2016. The additional leased space adds to Schlumberger’s current operations in the emirate, a statement said.
“To have Schlumberger as our first blue chip anchor tenant in our office property is a further catalyst to the property which has already achieved more than 70 per cent of prelease commitments for the office space,” said DWTC’s senior vice president of real estate Gurjit Singh.
“This will also bode well for the 588 room business hotel in DTCD operated by the Accor Group under the Ibis brand, due to open early next year and the on-going development of DTCD phase 2, which comprises two further Grade A office properties of 8 and 12 storeys, scheduled for completion in Q3 of 2017,” he added.
DWTC, the region's MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) venue operator, was converted to a freezone earlier this year in an effort to transform Dubai as a hub for regional and international exhibitions. The announcement followed an ambitious plan to build a 15,500 square metres extension to the current DWTC exhibition complex space after strong year-on-year growth in events.
The extension will expand the available multipurpose indoor capacity to over 122,000 square metres, catering to the next five years of portfolio growth and accommodating Dubai's growing business tourism traffic, the operator said.
