Bookmakers are predicting that this summer could be the hottest on record.
Temperatures in the capital reached as high as 24 degrees this afternoon, with the warm, sunny weather expected to continue into tomorrow.
And there is now a 5/2 chance that June also notches up the monthly record.
Bookmakers have rated an odds-on chance at 1/4 that the newest temperature-high of the year is set before the clock strikes midnight on June 30.
The hottest ever June temperature was recorded at Southampton's Mayflower Park on June 28, 1976, when the mercury hit a staggering 35.6 °C.
This year's maximum temperature of 27.7 °C was recorded at Plockton, Ross & Cromarty, in Scotland on May 9.
However, the mercury is predicted to soar beyond 28 °C later this month.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said that bets on summer being the hottest ever were "pouring in as quick as the mercury's rising".
However, although temperatures are set to remain warm into next week, the dry weather it is not expected to last.
Met Office forecaster Tom Crocker warned that the sunny skies are predicted to give way to thunder and rain.
He said: "There will be widespread showers breaking out across most of the country that will get heavy and see some thundery downpours so this may perhaps be a shock to the system for some."
