Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) has identified the location of its third brick-and-mortar store just outside Portland, Oregon.
The store will open this fall at the Washington Square mall in Tigard, Oregon. It's a similar location to Amazon's first two stores in Seattle's University Village mall and Westfield UTC mall in San Diego.
Portland is something of a literary city and is home to Powell's City of Books, one of the oldest and largest U.S. booksellers.
Amazon's physical expansion is progressing at a slow and steady pace, in spite of a report in February when Sandeep Mathrani, CEO of General Growth Properties, mentioned on a conference call that Amazon was planning to open 300 to 400 stores. Mathrani later issued a statement saying it "was not intended to represent Amazon's plans."
Although Amazon stores are primarily focused on books, the company's first product category as an online retailer, electronics is getting prominent placement. Physical formats are a great way for shoppers to test out Kindle readers and tablets as well as Amazon's Bluetooth speaker Echo that uses artificial intelligence to make online ordering easier.
