It's the news anyone who's craved a Big Mac at 3am has been waiting for - but they quickly ended the fun
When you're on your way home from a night out, it's only natural to be so hungry you have to take a trip to the local kebab house or a McDonald's.
But there's nothing more disappointing than getting there after it's closed when you've got a craving for a Big Mac and fries.
In this case, you might notice the drive-thru is still open and try your luck at walking through that to get served.
But it doesn't usually work if you haven't got wheels. That is, until last week.
A branch of McDonald's in Llandudno, North Wales, trialled the thing hungry pedestrians have been craving for years - a 'walk-thru'.
The restaurant usually closes at midnight but has a 24-hour licence for the drive-thru, reports the Daily Post .
Obviously the customers who rock up at 3am on a Saturday morning aren't likely to be driving, so the manager decided to serve customers who were on their feet instead of on wheels.
The branch posted on its Facebook page that it was inviting local residents to the 'walk through Drive Thru' between 2.30am and 4am on Saturday, catering for clubbers leaving a newly re-opened nightclub.
It proved a success with the night going 'extremely well' according to staff.
Facebook user Leah Hayden said: "We won't have to flag down a random car to take us through in future."
Others rejoiced at not having to order a taxi to take them to get food.
One customer, Ryan Griffith, commented on Facebook: "No I'm not having this in the slightest. I tried to walk through this one a few years back they said I needed wheels.
"They didn't even see the funny side when I turned up 10 minutes later being pushed in a trolley. Can I make a claim now?"
Another Facebook user said their friend had been 'campaigning for it for years'.
A McDonald's spokeswoman said: "The ‘walk-through’ was a local initiative by the business manager of the restaurant to invite local residents to come and enjoy a meal at the restaurant after their night out at the newly reopened nightclub Broadway.
"As the restaurant is in the process of securing a 24 hour license, customers can only use the drive-thru to order food at night, so the ‘walk-through’ is just a play on how customers can come and enjoy a nice meal, later in the evening."
The restaurant will be repeating the 'walk through' this weekend between 2.30am-4am in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday mornings.
In an amended statement, a McDonald's spokesperson said: “There were temporary measures in place allowing customers to purchase food from the drive-thru on foot.
"This however was done when the lanes were closed off to cars and came following guidance from the police which helped with managing large groups of people after the nearby nightclub shut
"This restaurant’s licence has now been amended and will operate 24/7 both in store and drive thru.”
McDonald's told Mirror Online that the 'walk-thrus' would not be rolled out to any other branches in the UK.
