Canton-based Dunkin' Donuts said Thursday that it will team up with the Coca-Cola Co. to launch a new line of branded bottled iced coffee at supermarkets and other stores in the U.S. early next year.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Dunkin’ Donuts, part of Dunkin’ Brands Group Inc. (Nasdaq: DNKN), announced that it will launch a line of Dunkin’ Donuts branded bottled coffee drinks with the help of Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO), which will manufacture, distribute and sell the product. The new beverages will be available at grocery, convenience stores, retailers and inside Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants.
The latest move by Dunkin' — announced on National Coffee Day — marks the first time the company has entered the $2.3 billion ready-to drink industry. Other retailers such as Starbucks and Whole Foods already offer bottled and already-brewed coffee in supermarkets and other retailers.
The Coca-Cola Co. will produce Dunkin’ Donuts ready-to-drink coffee beverages, including using Arabica coffee blends, Dunkin' said in a statement. Coca-Cola’s network of bottling partners will sell and distribute Dunkin’ Donuts ready-to-drink beverages, which will include real milk and sugar in a variety of flavors.
Dunkin’ Donuts also announced that it would equally share with "qualified" U.S. Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees its net profits from the sales of ready-to-drink coffee through outlets outside of its restaurants.
Dunkin' shares are up about 17 percent since the beginning of this year to about $50. 15 as of Thursday.
