Franchising, retail, business
09/07/2017 - iSmash, the high street tech repair business, expects to more than double its turnover from £6 million to £13 million this year through an ambitious UK-wide expansion.
Founder Julian Shovlin, 26, opened his first store outside London in Manchester’s Arndale Centre last week. Shovlin, who started the firm – which guarantees repairs within 30 minutes – when he was just 20, said he will open 13 new outlets across the UK this year.
He has 16 branches in London.Shovlin said the business idea followed his own ‘negative experiences with breaking my own phone a couple of times, having to go through the pain of getting it fixed, having to travel an hour to the nearest place.’ He said: ‘I decided I would order the tools myself, train myself how to do it. 'I set the office up while I was at in my second year at university in Dublin and took orders online. I did that for about 18 months then set up a test store in Dublin and traded that in my last year of uni. 'I decided to bring the business to London because it’s a much bigger marketplace.’
