03/09/2017 - The installed poles feature photovoltaic cells that are charged by the sun during the day
Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) has completed the installation of more than 100 solar powered lighting poles and high-efficiency floodlights in the Yarmouk area of Khor Fakkan.
The project, on the UAE’s east coast, is designed to rationalise energy consumption and promote the use of renewable energy.
The installed poles feature photovoltaic cells that are charged by the sun during the day and provide light at night time with only occasional maintenance required.
SEWA chairman, HE Dr Rashid Al Lim, said the project followed similar initiatives in several areas of Sharjah city that have seen more than 1,200 solar lighting poles installed.
The authority plans to use environmentally friendly and energy savings lamps in all regions of the emirate.
