Paris, September 18, 2014 – Constantly at the cutting edge of industry trends, this year’s MAPIC will once again welcome a large number of new retail brands with original concepts designed to support their strong international growth.
Organised by Reed MIDEM, the International Retail Property Market will be held in Cannes from 19 to 21 November.
“As consumption patterns are changing radically in a complex economic environment, retailers need to be even more creative and dynamic to keep growing. At MAPIC, attendees will find examples of innovative retailers set to go international,” says Nathalie Depetro, MAPIC Director.
Among the first–time retailers at MAPIC, eSmoking World, a Polish brand known for “e-cigarettes” that is part of Chic group, the European leader in e-cigarettes. In the wellness segment, the English retailer Seacret, known for its skin care products based on Dead Sea salt and mineral extracts, will also participate for the first time at MAPIC.
The retailer 2theloo, a Dutch brand created in 2011, has come up with a strikingly simple yet original idea for opening toiletries shops in towns, shopping centres, service stations, and railway stations, offering an always clean, spacious and unusual outlet where consumers can find a wide range of cosmetics, gadgets, and gifts … and sometimes even a coffee corner!
When it comes to the catering segment, Leonidas, the well-known brand of Belgian chocolates, has created “Chocolates café.” The brand will benefit from MAPIC to present its concept in three café areas in the exhibition halls where there will naturally be chocolates, but also drinks. Leonidas launched its first hybrid concept in Antwerp in early July 2014.
Other new catering brands at MAPIC include the Italian Gelatobuono, offering home-made ice cream inspired by traditional Italian craftsmanship, and in the same focus on simple, home cooking, the German brand Hanswurst specializing in sausage dishes. The English Prêt à Manger brand established in 1986, which now has more than 300 outlets worldwide, will also come to MAPIC to further expand its international network.
The event will welcome the US companies Pinkberry and Orange Julius, Memphis Coffee for France (fast food) and the Italian brands Out of Gluten, which offers gluten-free pastries, breads and cakes, and Giuliani’s, specialised in pasta and pizza.
In the ready-to-wear segment, Tiger Stores (Danish brand known for its attractive prices from €1 to €20, Teddy Smith for France, specializing in denim, the Canadian brand Lululemon Athletica, with its yoga, running and fitness products, the Swedish brand Lindex and the Turkish brand Machka, will feature among the first-timers at MAPIC.
To get an idea of what shopping could be like tomorrow, there will be an exhibition of the future shop entitled “Pop-Up Shop the Future” designed by the Belgian publication RetailDetail, which will be showcased in the esplanade of MAPIC in six containers. It will track a consumer making her way through a futuristic store, starting at the entrance, purchasing, and then leaving, mixed in with a unique digital experience.
The MAPIC conference programme on Thursday, 20 November, will include a focus on the views and outlook of retailers, bringing together:
Diego Baronchelli, Senior Director Retail, for VF International. The global company owns The North Face, Vans, Timberland, Wrangler, Lee, and Nautica.
Emile Ruempol, Business Development Director for the HEMA brand.
Alain Afflelou, market leader in optician shops in France.
Sohail Shaikh, Director of International Development for Mothercare PLC.
