Shopping centre of the future: Stunning design has space for 200 shops and a theme park
This is the shopping centre of the future that has been designed to have a theme park inside and space for visitors to walk on the roof.
With an eco-friendly design based on flowers, plans for the massive mall were created by Belgian architect Vincent Callebaut who claims the centre would encourage renewable energy and has capacity for 200 shops.
The centre is designed to sit on the Yangtze River in China's Jianxi Province and is hoped the work could decrease China's carbon footprint and recycle part of its own waste.
As well as collecting and filtering rain water, the building will be south-facing to make the most of the daylight with solar cells and solar tubes as well as wind turbines providing a sustainable energy source.
Situated well away from large towns, he also hopes similar complexes could alleviate the problem of overcrowded cities.
Environmental: The design uses rainwater and solar power
He said: "The project wants to create a sense of place that relates to the history, geography and tropical climate of this magnificent area.
"At the same time, it aims to alleviate the effects of climatic change by innovative solutions for commercial and cultural uses.
"The cultural expression is to merge history and nature in the architectural project in order to create a lasting impression and an emotional resonance on the visitors of this tourist destination.
"Wooden Orchids places great emphasis on sustainability by the application of the latest sustainable design principles.
"This includes low carbon transportation, green infrastructure, renewable energy sources, smart city technologies, natural building materials and innovative construction techniques.
"The aim of the project is to create a new prototype of shopping complex and a new eco-responsible shopping."
The inside of the shopping centre has plenty of greenery growing which is fed by water collected in car parks, streets and plazas.
Change: The designer hopes the plans could encourage China to reduce its carbon footprint
As well as the array of shops, the complex includes in its plans an idea to build a public library, sports centre, organic food courts, theme park and farmers markets.
Although some cars will have access to drive through parts of the complex, Mr Callebaut, of Paris, France, wants visitors on bikes and walking to get priority.
He added that the energy consumption of the entire building will be 70 per cent less than tradition shopping centres.
