Franchising, retail, business

Last year, we reported that Michaels, the world’s largest arts and crafts retailer, would be moving into the RioCan Hall Complex at Richmond St. West and John St. in downtown Toronto.
The massive retail space, which was previously occupied by Chapters, is 3 levels and spans nearly 32,000 square-feet. It has now been confirmed that the new location will open to the public with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:45 am on Friday, October 2, 2015 – doors will open to shoppers shortly after at 8:00 am. The new location will have the largest Michaels’ sales floor in Canada.
The grand opening of the downtown Toronto location comes quick on the heels of their Erin Mills Power Centre location, which opened on September 18th. Another Michaels location will open in Etobicoke at 170 N. Queen St. on October 16th, bringing Michaels’ store count up to 27 in the GTA and 127 nationwide.
Shoppers can expect a more open aesthetic and community feel within stores. Aisles will be wider and the new stores will offer a variety of classes, including jewelry making, paper crafting, cake decorating, and yarn classes. Kids classes will be offered every Saturday morning for $2.
Be sure to check out the grand opening celebrations as Michaels will be giving away more than $1500 in gift cards and prizes for the whole family throughout the day!
