Chef Ivan Simeoli, with Restaurant Director Francesco Tatulli and entrepreneurs Kanav Puri and Suraj Mehra, will open Osteria 60, a new, modern Italian restaurant adjacent to the Baglioni Hotel in Kensington, London, on 11 May 2016.
The 88-seat dining area, plus an integral bar with 15 bar stools, is being designed by the Arth Group (Kanav Puri’s company), in conjunction with Milanese interior design firm Rebosio + Spagnulo, taking inspiration from the traditional Milanese trattorias of the 1950s. There is also a charming terrace area facing Kensington Gardens that will accommodate up to 30.
Ivan Simeoli was previously Head Chef alongside Oliver Peyton for seven years, at both the Royal Academy of Arts and The Wallace Collection, and prior to that was at the Ambassador Hotel in Bloomsbury. At Osteria 60, he is keen to marry both ‘best of British’ seasonal ingredients with Italian staples, with a healthy approach where possible, and always having a strong visual impact on the plate.
The menus will incorporate many classic Italian dishes alongside more contemporary interpretations by Ivan. Typical dishes will include Carpaccio of wild sea bass with sea urchins; Scialatielli pasta with salt cod and amatriciana sauce; Risotto with San Marzano tomatoes and smoked provolone; Lamb chop with Sicilian aubergine and caponata; Veal Milanese with vignarola salad and burnt gremolata; Tiramisù croccante; and Amalfi lemon tart with sorrel sorbet. There will also be a separate bar menu, including Pizzette, Arancini, various bruschetta and some seasonal pasta dishes.
The international wine list has been assembled by Head Sommelier Giovanni Rapagnani (previously at Galvin La Chapelle), and will comprise approximately 140 bins, more than half of which will be regional Italian options. Prices will start at £24 (bottle), with at least a dozen by the glass.
Osteria 60 will be open daily. In addition to lunch (noon-3pm) and dinner (6pm-10.30pm) each day, there will be a breakfast service from 7am-10am, afternoon tea from 3pm-6pm, and, a weekend Italian brunch from 11am-3pm on Saturday and Sunday. The Bar will remain open throughout the day until 1am, offering a lighter menu as well as both classic and modern cocktails.
Restaurant Director Francesco Tatulli has broad experience in top London restaurants and clubs, having most recently worked at two very prestigious Mayfair clubs – The Arts Club in Dover Street, where he was Restaurant General Manager, and at the Rififi Club, in Hay Hill.
