Independent top shop The Entertainer is looking to see off considerable competition from high street giants John Lewis and Tesco in the World Retail Awards this year in Paris.
In what could prove the most important award for a high-street retailer to win this year is the omni-channel retailer of the year. The retailer, headed up by Gary Grant, is hoping to win on the grand stage.
The retailer’s profit hit £5.9m last year – a figure significantly dwarfed by Tesco’s £3.3bn and John Lewis’ £410m, respectively.
The Entertainer offers next day delivery for £4.99 if you order by 7pm and free click and collect within 30 minutes across its 90 UK stores. Its first store was set up in Amersham, Buckinghamshire in 1981.
Coffee shop Harris + Hoole will go head to head with Harvey Nichols for customer experience of the year, while Argos Old Street vies for top spot with Jigsaw’s Duke Street Emporium shop in the best store design category.
AO.com and Made.com have enjoyed strong trading of late and are both shortlisted to win the Pure Play online retailer of the year award.
“The finalists are all fantastic representatives for the international retail industry and how retailers continue to adapt and innovate in an increasingly challenging environment,” said World Retail Congress chairman, Ian McGarrigle.
