You are annoying your boss and colleagues any time you take your phone out during meetings, says new research from USC's Marshall School of Business, and if you work with women and people over forty they're even more perturbed by it than everyone else.
The researchers conducted a nationwide survey of 554 full-time working professionals earning above $30K and working in companies with at least 50 employees. They asked a variety of questions about smartphone use during meetings and found:

China is the “most trusted” brand among majority of US millennials, finds a study.
Chicago-based branding agency Monogram Group conducted a survey among 21-32 year-old consumers – the demographic shown to be the most open-minded to foreign brands – and found 61 per cent said they were willing to purchase goods from China and 58 per cent likely to buy a Chinese-branded product within the next three years.
This was especially so in office products, electronics and light bulbs, as more than 50 per cent of respondents indicated willingness to purchase in each category, even though respondents’ awareness of brands in these categories was negligible.

Apple’s investors obsess over early iPhone sales like Hollywood producers tracking opening ticket sales for a blockbuster movie.
A big weekend is usually a healthy predictor of consumer demand for the holiday season — not just for Apple, but for the entire consumer electronics industry.
Those Apple watchers can rest easy because the company’s new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are no bust. Apple said on Monday that it had sold 10 million units of its new and bigger iPhones over the weekend, up from the nine million iPhones it sold last year in the first weekend of sales for the previous generation of iPhones.
The iPhone is still Apple’s biggest cash cow, accounting for about 70 percent of its profit. So early sales can help predict quarterly or even annual results for the company, based in Cupertino, Calif.

Italian fashion label Gucci is joining the world of cosmetics by debuting the new line with Charlotte Casiraghi of Monaco at Milan Fashion Week.
On Sept. 17, the brand launched the make-up line, Gucci Cosmetics, at a cocktail party at its Milan flagship store. This entrance into cosmetics will likely create a broader audience for the brand and allow Gucci to compete with other fashion brands who have already entered the world of cosmetics.
Made up in Gucci
The new line was presented through a special product display and a sneak peek into the digital campaign that will surround the collection. Ms. Casiraghi will be the face of the collection.
Gucci Eye, Gucci Lip and Gucci Nail will lead the collection along with products for skin. The launch mixes the brand’s fashion with beauty.

Franchisor Not Liable for Harassment by Franchisee’s Employee
Under a new ruling by the California Supreme Court, franchisors can protect their brands using system-wide standards without the risk of being vicariously liable for employment-related actions of their franchisees.
A. California Supreme Court Holds Franchisor Not Vicariously Liable for Alleged Wrongful Conduct by a Franchisee’s Employee.
On August 28, 2014, the California Supreme Court issued a landmark ruling in favor of Domino’s Pizza and all business format franchisors that do business in California. In Patterson v. Domino’s Pizza, LLC, the court held that Domino’s Pizza was not vicariously liable for wrongdoing by a franchisee's employee, because Domino's did not retain or assume the general right of control over relevant day-to-day aspects of the employment and workplace behavior of the franchisee's employees. The court enunciated a clear rule: a franchisor “becomes potentially liable for actions of the franchisee's employees, only if it has retained or assumed a general right of control over factors such as hiring, direction, supervision, discipline, discharge, and relevant day-to-day aspects of the workplace behavior of the franchisee's employees.”

Once used by servants to greet their owners ciao has become today a very friendly word to be employed not only for greetings
There is a new magazine in Australia called Segmento, whose aim is “promoting awareness of what Italians think, feel and do“, as the Consul General of Italy in Melbourne Marco Maria Cerbo stressed in his welcoming message for the first issue published just a few weeks ago.
If it is true that Segmento wants to embrace the Italian culture in its entirety, what readers might appreciate the most are its precious tips to learn Italian language. The first issue focused on Ciao, one of the most common-used Italian greeting mutuated by the English-speaking world. Well, the first thing that Segmento explains is that ciao is not just a greeting, rather a very complex word hiding dozens of different meanings.

We still do not have a good reason why Migros and Coop, the two Swiss retail giants, have refused to sign the Bangladesh Accord for the garment industry, concluded UNI General Secretary Philip Jennings in his remarks to the Annual Symposium of the Swiss organisation Droits sans Frontières (Rights without Borders) in Berne.
The Bangladesh Accord, signed in May 2013, broke new ground as two mega global unions - IndustriALL and UNI - made a legally binding agreement to improve garment factory safety in Bangladesh. Almost 2000 lives had been lost culminating in the Rana Plaza factory collapse in April 2014 with the loss of over 1000 lives.
The tragedy marked a turning point and led the unions to conclude that voluntary confidential, closed inspection processes were a model that miserably failed the people of Bangladesh.

A manager we’ll call Tom was a midlevel sales executive at a Fortune 500 company. After a dozen or so years there, he was thriving—he made his numbers, he was well liked, he got consistently positive reviews. He applied for a promotion that would put him in charge of a high-profile worldwide product-alignment initiative, confident that he was the top candidate and that this was the logical next move for him, a seemingly perfect fit for his skills and ambitions. His track record was solid. He’d made no stupid mistakes or career-limiting moves, and he’d had no run-ins with upper management. He was stunned, then, when a colleague with less experience got the job. What was the matter?

With its ski parks and museums, Oslo more than makes up for its “expensive” tag.
Oslo, Norway’s capital and its most populous city, has the dubious honour of being the world’s most expensive city for holidaymakers. That is coupled with the perception that it lacks the cosmopolitan appeal of other costly cities, such as tokyo, New york and london.
While this maybe true in parts, there is no denying the charm the city holds for a cross section of travellers – the adventure sports buff is offered an array of winter sports options and the artsy hipster has many museums and riverside cafes to wander into.
Summer is the most popular time to visit Oslo for its warmer climate and long days. As you would have heard, it never gets completely dark that far north in the midsummer. Winter in Oslo however has its own charms too. Temperatures hover below zero and the city is almost permanently covered with a layer of snow and ice, which gives an air of the magical, even though it makes walking a little perilous.

Numerous studies have shown that women engage less than men in either entrepreneurship or business investing. Women also launch firms with significantly less capital than men, which limits their ability to grow their firms and increases their risk of financial distress in periods of adversity.
Now, new research from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem shows that crowdfunding could level the playing field for women wishing to raise capital for their ventures, and in some cases even give them an advantage.
